Asheville 2018

Asheville

We took a quick trip to see the sights of Asheville, North Carolina. The last time we were in Asheville was over 15 years ago, so a lot has changed! We spent most of our time eating. Although we did sneak in a Tedeschi Truck Band concert which was a great treat. We started our visit up on the hill overlooking the town staying with friends (note the awesome view).

And for us no home is complete without a dog so here is a shot of Sammy.

First stop was Curate for a late lunch. Wow, was it good!! After one of their bloody mary’s, super smoky and interesting with fresh tomato juice, we moved onto a Grenache Blanc that was delicious. I won’t share the details because I am still on the hunt for where to get it (but I will keep you posted!). We shared a bounty of small plates that the server picked for us. I think my favorite was the octopus but we also had…

brandada de bacalao – traditional cod & potato pureé served hot with crisp bread

pimientos de piquillo rellenos – piquillo peppers stuffed with spanish goat cheese

pulpo a la gallega – galician style octopus served warm w/sea salt, olive oil, Spanish paprika, and Yukon gold potato purée

After the concert, we were going to take on the town, but alas in Asheville it was the off season on a Sunday, so there was not much to do. Not to worry, our gracious hosts pulled together a beautiful spread.

Day two we drove around Biltmore Village and traversed most of downtown Asheville. We had lunch at Wicked Weed Brewery and tried a quick chicken salad sandwich and the brew of course.

Then, what we considered the highlight of our visit. We went to West Asheville, super cool vibe, dinner at the Admiral. Absolutely everything was delicious. We had a hard time deciding what to order which is not normal for us.

We started with …..

chicken liver toast

nc smoked trout

hng beef tenderloin tartare with a 64 degree egg yolk, cahills porter cheddar, cornichons, sriracha aioli, quail egg

seared duck breast with french lentils, apple, fennel and orange

brasstown ribeye

So  – check off one of my resolutions, we have already traveled more this year than last and we are hoping to keep it up. So many places to see and so many places to eat!!!
